LASER CUTTING SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
Laser cutting synthetic material has many advantages. For example, a laser cutting machine is very precise. This is due to the laser beam being less than 0.1 millimetre wide. Additionally, there is no need for post-processing, and little loss of material. We can laser cut synthetic material, but also laser engrave and laser mark it. Are you, for example, looking for a company that is able to laser cut your synthetics? But would you also like to have unique barcodes on the product? We are happy to help you. Of course, you are also very welcome when you just want your synthetics to be laser cut.

LASER CUTTING AND PROCESSING SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
We can process synthetics into any desired shape. In our machine park measuring 1,200m2, we operate seven laser machines, a CNC milling machine and a bending machine. With these machines, our experts have processed over 18,000,000 synthetic products. We can laser cut, laser mark, laser engrave and mill synthetics. Our production is executed ISO 9001:2015 certified.
There are a lot of possibilities in terms of, for example, the shape or the numbers. Due to all these possibilities and our expertise, various (ongoing) projects have been initiated. For example, laser cutting PMMA for Honeywell. PMMA is one of the synthetics we cut on a large scale. But we can process many more types of synthetics, and the various possibilities are shown on this page.
Benefits of laser cutting synthetics
Laser cutting synthetics offers multiple benefits. A number of these benefits have been mentioned above. Other benefits that may lead you to choose the option of laser cutting synthetics are:
- High design freedom (the possibility of cutting complex shapes)
- High cutting speed
- Little loss of material
- High precision
- It usually requires no post-processing
- It doesn’t require fixture of the product
Due to these benefits, various businesses from areas such as the machine building, automotive, energy and medical industries opt for laser cutting synthetics.
Synthetic intermediate products
We cut large numbers of synthetic intermediate products every week. An intermediate product is a material that still needs to be processed into a finished product. The product has already been processed, but it isn’t completely finished yet. Intermediate products are made from one or more raw materials. We cut synthetic intermediate products with a laser cutting machine. For example, we can laser cut HDPE and POM. But we are also glad to process other types of synthetics for you. Do you have any questions? Please feel free to contact us. We are happy to answer your questions regarding the laser cutting of synthetic intermediate products.
CHARACTERISTICS OF SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
We would like to tell you more about the characteristics of each synthetic material. Because there are different types of synthetics, and each type has its own characteristics. Would you like to laser cut synthetics such as PMMA or HDPE? Please start with reading about the various types of synthetics and their characteristics. On this page you can see which synthetics we can laser cut for you. Are you wondering which type of synthetic you should use for your product? Click on one of the synthetics and find out all about it. You can, for example, read all about the characteristics of the synthetic, but also in which industry or product it is often used.
LASER ENGRAVING AND LASER MARKING SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
Besides laser cutting synthetic material, we can also laser engrave and laser mark it. Laser engraving is often used for engraving barcodes, unique numbering or complex logos. Laser engraving creates a small height difference in the surface area. These inscriptions are wear-resistant and remain visible for a long time. Laser marking is also used to equip your product with, among other things, barcodes, unique numbering and complex logos. In laser marking, we apply a contrasting colour. The surface area of the material doesn’t change and remains smooth. Because we can laser cut, laser engrave and laser mark products, we are able to provide the total package; we are able to produce products exactly like you want them.
SYNTHETIC MATERIALS SUITED FOR LASER CUTTING
Synthetics are processed into different products. For example, in cars (dashboards), in packaging or in medical equipment. This means that we laser cut synthetics for various industries. We supply synthetic intermediate products to the machine building, yacht and ship building, automotive, medical and energy industries. The benefits of using synthetics are the durability, the light material, low maintenance and the cheap price. Furthermore, the material is very easy to process.
BENDING SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
Do you want to bend (drape or shape) your synthetic material, for example plexiglass? BMTEC is able to bend various synthetics for you. We only do this in combination with laser cutting.
We often bend thermoplastics such as plexiglass by heating them. Some synthetics can also be bent when cold. With the right equipment, you can try it yourself. But what if you don’t want to invest in the equipment and be assured of a beautiful final result? Let BMTEC bend your synthetics.
How do you bend synthetics?
We bend synthetics using various methods. For example, we heat it in an industrial oven or with a blow dryer. We then carefully place it around a mould. That’s how we leave it to rest until the material is cooled down. This ensures that the product will be shaped as you desire.
We also use a hot wire on a thermal bending machine. This wire only heats the material on the exact place where it needs to be bent. It ensures a smooth and straight bending line. Therefore, you are able to let your synthetic sheet material be bent in various angular degrees.
Which synthetics are we able to bend?
We are able to bend various synthetics for you:
- PC (Polycarbonate)
- PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate, plexiglass)
- HDPE (high density polyethylene)
- PET-G (polyethylene terephthalate glycol)
- PS (polystyrene)
- PP (polypropylene)
- POM (polyoxymethylene)
Bending plexiglass
One of the synthetics we bend the most is plexiglass. Plexiglass is also known as PMMA. We also only bend this synthetic in combination with laser cutting. We bend the plexiglass by heating it to 160 degrees Celcius. It becomes soft at this temperature, which makes it easy to process. If you would like to learn more about bending plexiglass, please feel free to contact us.
